About Us
Founding and Early Years (1997–2000)
Fieldstone Day School was founded in 1997 with a clear purpose: to provide a rigorous, internationally minded education in a close-knit learning environment. The school opened with eight students in a church basement in Midtown Toronto, offering a curriculum designed to emphasise global awareness, academic depth, and critical thinking.
Rapid growth followed. Within two years, Fieldstone expanded into a larger above-ground facility, allowing the school to introduce a full high school programme. These early years established the school’s defining characteristics—high academic expectations, small class sizes, and a strong sense of community.
Growth and Campus Development (2001–2008)
In 2001, Fieldstone moved to its current dedicated campus in northwest Toronto. This transition marked a significant milestone, enabling the expansion of specialist facilities, enhanced academic programming, and a broader range of extracurricular opportunities.
The school celebrated its first Grade 12 graduating class in 2003, reinforcing its position as a complete Kindergarten to Grade 12 institution. During this period, Fieldstone continued to refine its academic framework while maintaining its founding emphasis on global perspective and individualised learning.
Curriculum Evolution and Global Focus (2009–2014)
Building on its original Global Knowledge curriculum, Fieldstone began offering the Cambridge International curriculum to students in Grades 6–12 in 2009. This decision reflected a strategic commitment to internationally benchmarked standards, external assessment, and academic depth across disciplines.
The introduction of Cambridge programmes enhanced university preparation and strengthened the school’s alignment with leading global educational practices.
Cambridge School-Wide Implementation (2015–Present)
In 2015, Fieldstone adopted the Cambridge International curriculum across all grades from Kindergarten to Grade 8. From Grades 9 to 12, the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) forms the core academic programme, with the option for students to continue their studies through Cambridge IGCSE and A Level courses.
This model provides a flexible and coherent academic pathway, combining a strong provincial foundation with internationally recognised qualifications. Students benefit from continuity in learning while retaining the ability to tailor their senior secondary experience to their academic goals.
In recognition of its sustained commitment to high-quality international education, Fieldstone is honoured to have been selected as a Cambridge Showcase School for the 2024–2027 cohort. Today, Fieldstone is recognised as a Cambridge International school committed to academic excellence, global citizenship, and the development of independent, confident learners.
Fieldstone is founded on a strong and positive belief in students. We recognise that adolescents have a powerful internal drive to succeed both academically and personally. Our role as educators is to guide, support, and challenge them as they turn that motivation into meaningful achievement.
In the upper school, we are committed to high expectations paired with strong support. Students follow the Ontario Secondary School curriculum, and those seeking additional academic challenge may choose to prepare for Cambridge examinations. This optional pathway offers rigorous enrichment that further develops subject mastery, critical thinking, academic independence, and intellectual curiosity.
We believe that real confidence emerges not from empty praise, but from genuine accomplishment. When students engage with challenging material, think independently, and persevere through difficulty, they gain self-respect and a lasting sense of pride in their abilities.
Our teaching approach is grounded in patience, professionalism, and mutual respect. Students feel comfortable expressing their ideas because they know they are taken seriously and supported. Within this secure and encouraging environment, they are willing to take academic risks, build resilience, and grow into self-assured young adults.
This atmosphere, although intangible, is essential to the Fieldstone experience. Academic excellence alone is not enough without a supportive environment in which students feel known and valued.
Our vision for the upper school is to be a leading independent institution in every respect: academically strong, emotionally supportive, and globally minded. We are proud to prepare students not only for university admission, but for engaged and purposeful lives beyond graduation.
Together, we are building a community where every student is challenged, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential.
